Beaches on Symi

 - Symi Travel Guide

General

Sea urchins can be a problem at certain times of the year on some of the beaches of Symi. It is advisable therefore, to purchase rubber or plastic swimming shoes which are readily available from many of the tourist shops.

Pedi Bay

Pedi Bay is one of the more popular beaches on Symi, with some sand and some shingle. Many people consider this to be the best beach on the island, with its beautiful surroundings and pleasant atmosphere. It can be reached by walking from Chorio or by taxi or taxi-boat from Yialos. Sun-beds and umbrellas are available and there are tavernas offering fresh fish and a variety of other dishes, and cafe-bars.

Panormitis Bay

Panormitis Bay is a small shingle beach and is best reached by the excursion boats. It is dominated by the massive Monastery of the Archangel Michael, that stands at the head of the bay and attracts many visitors every summer.

Nanou Bay

One of the best beaches on the island of Symi is the big, sweeping bay of Nanou. Nanou is one of the most popular bays, best reached by taxi-boat or excursion boat. It has large pebbles but wonderful turquoise, clear waters. Umbrellas and sunbeds are supplied free of charge by the only taverna on the beach.

Nos and Emporios

Just around the headland from the harbour of Yialos, is the small and rather pretty Nos Beach that is, like most of the Symi beaches, quite pebbly. The water is crystal clear and with one taverna and umbrellas available for shade, it's a perfect place to spend the day, within easy walking distance from Yialos. There is a choice of taking one of the small taxi boats but it also a lovely short stroll.

Agios Nikolaos

The Beach of Agios Nikolaos is a sandy bay with a taverna and sun beds. Shade provided by the trees is most welcome during the hot summer days. Agios Nikolaos is accessible by either walking or taxi-boat from Pedi.
